All of human existence is not created equal. While each individual exists as a conscious being, all exist at varying levels of consciousness. Our one true purpose in life is to reach peak enlightenment, or simply our highest, most conscious selves. This journey to ultimate consciousness spans beyond our perceivable ideas of time and space. As we seek to evolve and shift into our highest possible energy, we subconsciously shift across this scale of consciousness.
The scale of consciousness is not a linear path. Starting at shame and ending with enlightenment, this written scale lays out the energetic shift between fear and love as these innate human feelings are key in shifting from a contracted to an expanded mind. This scale, though, was created to be perceived by the Ego, the "I". To summarize Eckhart Tolle's teachings in A New Earth, the most common mind we encounter is the Ego. This is the voice in your head that says "I am this" or "I am that." "The ego isn't wrong; it's just unconscious" (45). Your conscious mind goes beyond these simple self-perceptions, it is all-knowing and communicative beyond words. To be conscious is to be present, to observe the internal dialogue between thought and feeling, and to have full awareness of your existence on an energetic level. To reach ultimate consciousness, one must simply be fully present not only in the current moment but in their own consciousness.
Shifting energy is simply a part of the human experience. Whether it is taking place consciously or subconsciously, we are constantly shifting through varying energies. When you laugh with a loved one, you are shifting between your love for them, the deep joy of the joke, and the security of the energy around you all at once. When you grieve a lost loved one, you are shifting between the ache of their parting, the love you held for them, and the guilt of lost time and regrets all at once. In practice, we shift through this energy with our Ego as we think "I am so happy to be here in this moment" or "I am at fault for not reaching out sooner." The conscious mind, though, sees this beyond the "I."
Consciousness is key to enlightenment. To be truly conscious, one must be present within themselves beyond thought.
