Trauma is an experience on several different levels that resides within us down to the cellular level. It keeps us stuck in survival mode where our focus and energy is to fight off unseen enemies. We learn to not trust others because if we do, we become vulnerable and to be vulnerable (from the mindset of a traumatized person) is viewed as a weakness, and that is why some people will choose violence over peace because they think violence is strength. Trauma builds walls of skepticism, judgments, suspicion, doubt, and any other negative name that is the direct cousin of fear. We exacerbate our traumatic experiences to justify our behavior as "justice" when in fact it is unjust and faithless. We as a species are more alike than we are different but it is our judgments about each other that creates a division in thinking that we are superior over another being. Trauma is the greatest threat to our national well-being and it is the largest public health crisis we face worldwide. In order to have world peace, we must have peace within ourselves. There are holistic and very effective methods in treating trauma, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
There have been over thirty studies which have shown a positive outcome. Some studies showed that 84-90% of single-event trauma victims no longer had PTSD symptoms after three ninety-minute EMDR sessions. Another study showed a 100% success rate for single-event trauma victims. Another study showed success with 77% of multiple trauma victims after six fifty-minute sessions." - The Trauma Center
